Frequently Asked Massage Questions

I have a plan at work that covers massage, how do I get my coverage?

Our Registered Massage Therapists will issue you a receipt on the day of your treatment with their association number printed on it.  You can then submit that receipt to your insurance company and will later be reimbursed for the amount that you are covered for.

How often should  I get a massage?

You are in complete control of your body therefore you could come in for a massage as often as you feel that your body needs.  The pressure of each massage will be determined with each visit.  For a client who comes in for a treatment on a regular basis, will come in for what’s considered a “maintenance” massage every 2 weeks or once a month.  For new clients, our therapists will be happy to design a program suitable for you.

How far should I undress?

During a full body massage, we do require you to fully undress and as for your underwear, you could choose to leave it on or take it off.  Your body will be draped at all times except for the body part being massaged.  All of our therapists are comfortable with whatever you choose to do.  Your comfort level is highly respected.

How will I feel after?

Immediately after massage you will feel great.  You will feel as though the world has been lifted off your shoulders.  Always take your time getting up from the massage bed as you may get a little lightheaded from lying down for a long period of time.  Massage therapy helps relieve toxins in your body.  A day or 2 after your massage you may feel sore as though your muscles have had a good work out, which they have.  Through the de-tox process you may also develop headaches.  To decrease the post-massage effects, you should always drink a lot of water to help flush down the toxins and perhaps soak in a tub with bath salts the night of the massage to allow your body to further the de-tox process from the inside out.

Is there anything I shouldn’t do before or after my massage?

Massage therapy is amazing at all times of the day because there is not too much that you need to do before or after a massage.  It is not recommended however, to have anything heavy to eat before a massage.  But having something light is always a great idea before and or after.

What duration of massage should I book?

A half hour is a good amount of time for a Scalp, Face, and Neck Massage, or Shoulders only.  In an hour your Massage Therapist can complete a Full Body Massage.  An hour and a half allows a full body massage with extra time spent on areas of tension.  As always, you decide what parts of your body you would like massaged.

Will the massage hurt?

Massage almost always feels good.  There may be tense muscles that need relaxing.  When your therapist works on these you will feel a “good pain” – hurts but you know you aren’t being hurt.  You should never feel “bad pain” and should immediately tell your therapist if you do.  You may experience some soreness after your massage which goes away after a day or two, leaving you feeling more relaxed and with a greater range of motion.

Can I refer my friends and family?

Yes.  Skin Deep Laser & Spa has a Referral Program.  Your friend or family member mentions your name when booking and will receive 10 % off any Service for their first visit.  As a thank you, we will be happy to give you 10 % off Services for your next visit.
